Hunger Month 2026: A Partnership Driving Real Impact

FoodForward SA and Food Lover’s Market: A Partnership Rooted in Purpose.

Since 2017, FoodForward SA and Food Lover’s Market have partnered on the annual Hunger Month campaign to raise awareness and funds to address food insecurity in South Africa. What began as a focused response to rising hunger has grown into one of the country’s most trusted long-term private sector partnerships supporting food redistribution.

Over the past nine years, the campaign has contributed millions of meals to vulnerable communities, forming a strong and sustained network of good.

As South Africa approaches World Hunger Day on 28th May, the urgency remains clear. Millions of households continue to face food insecurity, often forced to reduce portions or skip meals altogether, with children among the most affected.

This year, the Hunger Month campaign calls on South Africans to help raise 10 million meals in a single month.

Through FoodForward SA’s established food recovery network, quality surplus food is recovered, stored, and redistributed to thousands of beneficiary organisations across the country.

A message from FoodForward SA MD, Andy Du Plessis, reflects the strength of this long-standing partnership:

“A heartfelt thank you to the Food Lover’s Market Holdings group, our leading financial donor and valued partner for more than a decade. Their unwavering support has enabled us to significantly expand our collective impact over the years. What we’ve built together goes far beyond a traditional partnership – it’s a relationship grounded in shared purpose that truly feels like family.

Together, we are part of a powerful network for good, making a meaningful difference in the lives of South Africans every day. We are deeply grateful for their continued support and excited about what we can achieve together in the years ahead.”

How you can support Hunger Month

Add just 47 cents to your purchase at the till when shopping at any Food Lover’s Market, FreshStop, VetsMart, Market Liquors, or Food Lover’s Eatery store nationwide.

That small contribution helps fund the logistics needed to move donated food safely and efficiently to the people who need it most.

Over the past decade, the World Hunger Month campaign has already helped provide more than 21.5 million meals, demonstrating the power and impact of partnerships.

This year, help raise 10 million meals and be part of a growing network of good changing lives across South Africa.
