FoodForward SA Passes Global FoodBanking Network Recertification, Recognised as a Leading Food Bank Globally

This year has started off on a great note for FoodForward SA, as we’re excited to announce that we have successfully passed our recertification with The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN).

This recertification shows our commitment to the highest standards in food banking as we continue our mission of working towards a South Africa without hunger.

The week-long audit, which was conducted from 28 October to 1 November by GFN auditors, Chris Rebstock and Kurt Schultz, included a thorough review of our administration, management practices and compliance with relevant regulations.

In his approval letter, Chris described FoodForward SA (FFSA) as the ‘Grandfather’ of food banking on the continent, acknowledging the significant impact we’ve made. We were also assessed on our relationships with the communities we serve, our food banking peers in the GFN network, and the 2,500 beneficiary organisations (BOs) we partner with.

Christ writes: “I consider myself especially fortunate to have the opportunity to conduct this audit due to my long history with food banking in South Africa. It was a great pleasure to observe how FoodForward SA has continued to grow and expand its impact throughout the country… I am impressed with how FFSA has continued to refine its programming and extend its reach across the country. It has thoughtfully focused on the expansion of virtual food banking, the creation of mobile (rural) distribution (MRD) routes to extend services to smaller towns and rural areas,

“FFSA has also established itself as the “Grandfather” of food banking on the continent – graciously and generously serving as mentor and teacher to younger food banking operations in numerous other countries. The impact of FFSA is felt far beyond the borders of South Africa and demonstrates the true spirit of the GFN network – mutual care and support for the global promotion of food banking.

“FFSA continues to meet or exceed the requirements of certification and remains a Certified Member in good standing in The Global FoodBanking Network.”
