Growing Hope This Earth Month: Bloomberg Teams Dig In

April was Earth Month, a time to reflect on our relationship with the planet and take meaningful action for a sustainable future. This year’s Earth Day theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” served as a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to protect the environment and support resilient communities.

FoodForward-SA was thrilled to partner with Bloomberg South Africa for a hands-on initiative that truly embodied the spirit of the month. On the 8th and 10th of April, Bloomberg’s teams in Cape Town and Johannesburg rolled up their sleeves to do some gardening for good, planting seeds which will eventually grow to become beautiful seedlings, which we distribute at no cost to the network of community gardens that from part of our Food Gardens Connect programme.

The teams planted a combined total of 2,800 seeds into 14 seed trays, which were distributed to beneficiary organisations that have established food gardens, so that they strengthen local food production and advance food security. Thanks to the efforts of Bloomberg’s volunteers, their food gardens will soon be bursting with fresh, homegrown produce — bringing both nourishment and dignity to those they serve.

This initiative is a great example of how corporate partners can contribute meaningfully to building community food resilience. A heartfelt thank you to Bloomberg for your continued support and commitment to sustainable impact. Together, we are planting seeds of change.
