African Foodbanks Share Best Practices

The week of 15 June was an opportunity for two African foodbanks within The Global Foodbanking Network – FoodForward SA (FFSA) and Food For All Africa (FFAA) in Ghana – to connect and learn from each other. FFAA’s Frank Kporwudo, Operations Manager, and Barbara Ohenewaa Ofori-Sarko, Fundraising Officer, travelled all the way from Accra, Ghana, to spend a week at the FoodForward SA national office and Cape Town warehouse. During the exchange programme, they learned more about FoodForward SA’s foodbanking standard operating procedures.

Says Frank, “It’s been a great experience getting to know what FoodForward SA is doing. I’ve learned a lot, especially about warehousing management, employee safety as well as food safety and handling, beneficiary organisation management and FoodShare virtual foodbanking, etc. I think this experience will go a long way towards supporting Food for All Africa in Ghana and I think we will be able to adopt most of these best practises.”

Food for All Africa was founded in 2015 by Chef Elijah Addo to address the widespread hunger and food waste challenges in Ghana. Their mission is to reduce hunger and poverty in Ghana by creating efficient and sustainable means of nutrition through food banking, diversity of long-term social development, awareness, educational and feeding programs.
